Easter is just around the corner, so I searched the internet for the most creative and interesting Easter recipe ideas. I was impressed by this cross shaped Easter cross bread that I found on the Russian site Sugarbreads . I feel so lucky I speak Russian so I could translate this recipe and share it with you. Have fun!
Cook Time: 120 Minutes
Yiel: 8-10
Ingredients
400 ml. warm water
800 gr. all-purpose flour flour
6 teaspoons oil
2 teaspoons dry instant yeast
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
Glaze
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp water
For the topping: sesame seeds
How to:
Sift the flour in a bowl, make a well in the middle and add water, yeast, sugar, salt and oil and knead the dough.
Knead for about 10 minutes.
Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel and leave to rise in a warm place until doubled in volume – about an hour.
When the dough is ready, roll it into a circular shape.
Cut the dough, starting from the outer edge in a long plait.
Next comes the fun part, transfer it to a parchment lined baking sheet and lay it out according to the image.
Leave the dough for about 30 minutes.
Beat the yolk with a fork to form a glaze and brush top of the bread with the glaze.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake it for 35-40 minutes, at 200 °C (400 °F) degrees.
