To really experience America and what it has to offer, you need a bit of an off-beat approach. Like anywhere, there’s the tourist offerings, and the real places and it’s up to you how you go about it. From backpacking its many mountain trails, to small towns, here are some ideas.
A Classic USA Road Trip
Of course, there are multiple transport methods for seeing the US. But there is something special about hitting the road to see some of the most special places up close and personal. While you could hire a Mustang for Route 66, with the wind in your hair and minimal care, there is also something to be said for the classic RV. From VW campers to the Winnebago, setting off and arriving at an RV park offers accommodation on wheels while on your American adventure.
Backpacking Mountain Trails
There are many glorious mountain trails across the United States that can help you appreciate the wonder of nature. You don’t need to be an expert either, as there are trails for all experience levels. For example, family-friendly trails include Sourdough Ridge on Mount Rainier and Cadillac Mountain Summit in Acadia National Park. As an experienced backpacker, you can commit to Alabama’s Pinhoti National Recreation Trail or Resurrection Pass Trail in Alaska.
Experience America Through Its National Parks
A road trip is a worthwhile exodus across the US, and the US is indeed home to some of the most unusual streets and roads, such as The Judge Harry Pregerson Interchange in LA. However, there are 63 National Parks in the US. As a backpacker, you might be familiar with some of the National Parks across the US. However, even if you aren’t, a National Park like Yosemite is worth the time. US National Parks are stunning and home to unique wildlife.
Visit Small Town Festivals
One of the most unique things about the US is the beauty of its small towns despite the size of its cities. In stark contrast, you can still experience an authentic American lifestyle in stunning towns across every state. There really are places like Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls! These are best visited during special times of the year when festivals are being held. For example, there’s nothing quite like a small New England town fall festival during Halloween.
Don’t Forget the Food!
One of the best things about traveling is getting to try authentic food. The US is in a unique position because the food is heavily inspired by immigrant flavors that have become uniquely American over time. From Creole cuisine in the South to the seafood of New England, there’s something for everyone. Just try to limit your time at the golden arches for the best experience! There’s so much more to American cuisine than burgers, you just have to go and find it.
Summary
A road trip is one of the best ways to experience America and the adventures you can find. National Parks are home to unique natural wonders, and are well worth visiting. However, you won’t be satisfied until you try the amazing cuisine you can find across all of the United States.
