Mondello beach is the largest, the closest and the most popular beach around Palermo and probably the most crowded one. It was built up from swamplands in early 1900s but now it’s lined with mansions and villas. Locals assured us, that the several mansions and villas lining the magnificent coastline had a trail of blood and money to hide.
The sea is clear, warm and very shallow. I love so much warm and shallow beaches! You can walk quite a way into the water before it gets deep.
You can find whatever you want in Mondello, sunbath in turquoise waters, do sports or rent a boat and go a bit further in and finally enjoy food and drinks in the nice bars and restaurants along the sea. If you have many staffs with you and you don’t want to carry them Mondello has a solution for that.
I saw some large cabinets on the beach and I was surprised to know that you can rent them and leave all your stuff. The space is so big that you can even sleep there.
To get to Mondello you can catch the 806 bus from Teatro Politeama, it takes only 20 minutes to get there and costs 1.10 €.
I visited Mondello and Palermo in August, thanks to a European Youth Project that brought together 40 of us from various parts of the continent, including Italy, Greece, Latvia and Slovakia.
Since the Mondello beach was very crowded during the day we only had a short walk there and went for swimming to another beach close to Mondello, but I don’t remember the name but I didn’t enjoy it a lot since it was very rocky.
After the beach we went to eat gelato. The Italian ice creams are the best!
We came back to Mondello the last day of our stay, in the evening when most people had gone and had a nice good bye party.
Yummy yummy! Canelloni are soooo delicious!
All the nice things come to an end but the memories keep them alive…

Sounds like a very nice trip.
(Ages since we went to Sicily. Loved the place and the people)
