Speaking about the windsurfing, all you really need is a great wind and a water to back loop your day. But when you’re thinking about an extraordinary windsurfing spot, it takes more than a rental shop, couple of good waves and bunch of wax to make it possible.
Let’s be honest : clean water, dramatic scenery and one big crazy wind are just the beginning. Get ready windsurfaholics, because Vassiliki beach is the ideal windsurfing spot for you!
This long sandy beach has everything to start rig. Its crystal clear water and perfect wind make just one of the priority conditions for sailing.
Vassiliki is a picturesque fishing village located 37 km (50 min. drive) southwest of Lefkada Town, Greece. ‘Eric’, the local thermal wind, makes this bay a great destination from mid-May to mid-October.
On a good day, and there are many good days, hundreds of windsurfers speeding across the water, which gives you a breathtaking view and adorable Instagram story for your unforgettable memories.
Vassiliki Beach is among the ten world’s best windsurfing destinations and the third best in Europe. The international water sports festival is held there. The organization of the Festival promised a spectacular fun on and off the water and it kept it up. Great job, guys!
Vassiliki is often considered the perfect spot for beginners. And all thanks to the light morning winds and the shallow waters.
The beach is full of windsurfing schools. They offer lessons affordable to everyone, from beginners to advanced windsurfers. The knee deep water and its sandy bottom allow beginners to build a confidence, but keep them safe from falls, too. The intermediate surfers can experience the rougher conditions at the narrow mouth of the bay. And the most adventurous ones go beyond the reef for ten-foot swells and powerful wind to try their luck.
Beside the good wind, Vassiliki beach offers you many hotels, house rentals and B&Bs up and down the shore. You’ll find there amazing sea side restaurants. After the morning on the water, you can spend the afternoon in a local tavern and enjoy the food. It’s not very popular for nightlife. So, if you want to partaaaay all night long, you’ll have to drive to Nidri of to Lefkada town.
Vassiliki faces towards Keffalonia (Fiskardo bay) and Ithaka islands, which can be seen in the distance but you can take a small ferry to both of these islands.
There are also available daily cruises from Nidri to Ithaka island, Skorpios Island, Fiskardo, Porto Katsiki beach and Egremni beach. You can visit all these places in one day for just 20 euros.
You can also explore by car the most amazing beaches of Lefkada, Porto Katsiki (can also be reached by boat if you want to avoid the numerous steps), Kathisma. Poros, Nikiana, Agios Nikitas and Sivota.
The Lefkada Island Map shows where these magnificent beaches are.
The little stunning beach Agiofili is very close to Vassiliki beach. You can reach it by following the coastal path or more easily by local boat from Vassiliki harbor. The ticket price is 6 euros.
Enjoy the summer, guys, and be one with the wind and sky!
