Kalithea is the beach where many locals like to gather every day and is probably my favourite place in Rhodes. The beach here is small and overcrowded in the middle of August, I couldn’t get a sunbed and swim in Kallithea beach but I enjoyed so much having a drink there.
The old constructions of the spa, going back to the period of the Italian domination, the impressive exotic vegetation and the palm trees, along with the rocky coast, form an excellent scenery–like landscape.
The view is so amazing and the old constructions of the spa so impressive. Small, quite and very natural. An ideal place to relax and enjoy the hot sun!! Just loved this place!
I’d definitely recommend stopping here for a coffee or for a pre- or post-dinner drink. And don’t forget to take your camera with you; it will be an opportunity to take a few great pictures.
The old Italian spa built in the 1930’s was designed by the Italian architect Pietro Lombardi who skillfully created an environment of unsurpassed beauty. In fact the picturesque monument has attracted even the attention of Hollywood with several international and Greek movies being filmed in Kallithea.
The film “Escape to Athena” with Telly Savalas and Roger Moore and some scenes from the film “The Guns of Navarone” were filmed here.
This place was famous for its medical springs. Unfortunately the spa is currently under renovation but the installation is worth to be seen. The springs have been famous since the time of Ancient Greece for their beneficial healing properties of the red waters flowing from the surrounding rocks. Hippocrates, the Greek father of all physicians, drank and recommended the healing qualities of Kalithea Spa waters.
Kalithea beach is located on the east coast of Rhodes, conveniently situated between Rhodes Town 4 miles to the north and Faliraki 3 miles to the south
Access to the beach from the town of Rhodes is very easy, by public buses, with frequent service, by taxi and, of course, by rented or private car and motorbikes.
