England

What are the best family trips to consider in the UK?

The UK offers some of the most historic and exciting family trip destinations in Europe, from the mystical causeway in Ireland to the ancient city of York. You’ll find something for every type of traveller on these trips, but you need to make sure that your vehicle is ready for the journey. Ensure that your car has had a full service or book an MOT online if it’s due soon!

The best destination for you and your family will depend on how you’re wanting to fill your time on your getaway. Here are some of our recommendations for the best family trips to consider in the UK:

Giant’s Causeway

Rated as one of the most magical places in the UK, the Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim has a history rooted in legend. Allegedly built by giants in Irish myth, this natural formation of 40,000 hexagonal steppingstones receives thousands of visitors a year and has made its mark on Irish tourism and culture.

Reachable by an invigorating hike, you’ll be in the perfect destination for kayaking and sea safaris for spotting dolphins, seals, and seabirds.

The Lake District

If you’re looking for fresh air, gorgeous mountains, and mirror-topped lakes, then the Lake District is ideal. Your family will be joining 20 million other visitors that explore this area of Cumbria every year and you’ll have your opportunity to marvel at the gorgeous landscape.

You’ll need to book in advance to popular places like Windermere, Grasmere, Wray Castle, and the National Trust’s Yewdale Valley.

Manchester

For a city break that is away from the capital of England, Manchester is a great option! The city is home to world-famous football, famous art galleries, and a music scene that must be seen to be believed. You’ll also find world-class restaurants and experiences that will keep you entertained every day of your trip.

York

The ancient history of York is rich and exciting, with its connections going back as far as the Saxons, Vikings, and Romans. Less intimidating but no less vibrant than bigger cities such as Manchester and Edinburgh, you’ll have the chance to walk the original city walls and stand in awe within the shadow of York Minster.

You can also take the kids on a trip to the Jorvik Viking Centre or National Railway Museum.
