Legoland Hotel: The Unusual Hotel Made of Lego!

The first Legoland Hotel  in the Americas opened this month in Carlsbad, California (there are two more in the world, one in Windsor, England in the other in Billund, Denmark), north of San Diego and promice to turn a day you’ll always remember into a night you’ll never forget!

Made from more than three million Lego bricks, lego sculptures are like individual artworks in and of themselves, starting with the huge dragon in the tower, guarding the hotel’s entrance. The green, smoke-breathing dragon, alone, was made out of 400,000 Lego bricks and took roughly 4,000 man hours to construct.

What do you do in a 250-room LEGO-themed hotel? For starters, you pick a room motif: “Pirate” (think skull and bones, LEGO monkeys and parrots) “Kingdom” (swords, shields and miscellaneous medieval stuff) or “Adventure” (maps, treasure chests, hieroglyphics). Then you must decide whether or not to upgrade to “premium” accomodations (which the hotel says have “some extra surprises” — basically extra LEGO toys and more elaborate LEGO theming). All rooms include a “treasure hunt” for the little ones (or, you know, LEGO-obsessed adults).

Building regulations being what they are, the hotel itself is not made of Lego bricks, but it is made to look like it is; much of the interior has been constructed from the building blocks.
