Rome part 1-City centre

Rome...such a magnificent city.

Piazza di Spagna. One of the most popular meeting places in Rome. The elegant staircase, built between 1723-1726, consists of 137 steps over twelve different flights.

In front of the Spanish Steps stands the Fontana della Barcaccia built in 1598 by order of the Pope Urbano VIII to commemorate the disastrous flood caused by Tevere river.

Love shopping? The most luxurious brands can be found at Via Condotti, Via Borgognona and Via Frattina. As well as first class restaurants and ice-cream parlours hidden amongst the old narrow streets and squares.

We had spagheti at dobar restaurant and everything we had ordered was delicious!

Liked the idea of decorating the wall with plastic water glasses.

I wonder what the guy behind us is thinking about…

Just a short stroll away the Piazza di Spagna you can see the Pantheon, Trevi fountain and Piazza Navona square.

Trevi fountain, the most beautiful fountain in all of Rome. The figures of unruly “sea horse” and the docile animal symbolize the two contrasting moods of the sea.

Tradition has it you will return to Rome if you throw a coin into the water

Piazza Navona is another beautiful square with impressive fountains, tons of artists selling paintings and lots of cafes and restaurants.

I had spaghetti with salmon and it was not good at all! Neither my friends liked their food.

Fountain of the Four Rivers. The fountain features four figures that represent a river from a different continent – the Nile, Ganges, Danube and Rio della Plata.

Piazza del Poppolo

Walk down Via del Corso and at number 20 you will see the house of the great German poet Goethe.

Just opposite on the other side of the street, you can see the eighteenth century building Palazzo Rondanini which once housed a famous art collection.

We stayed at rental appartments B&B Corso22‏ at via del corso. The room wasn’t special but  it was clean and the location was perfect. It was walking distance to almost all the sites. It is close to Via Condotti,  the Spanish Steps and  to the subway.

The breakfast was also good, you had it all in your fridge and it was much more than enough.

Castel  Sant Angelo

The Roman Forum was the marketplace of Rome and also the business district and civic center

and the Colosseum, the centre of entertainment.

Delicious finger food! One of the best places for Sicilian typical food and reasonably priced.

Trastevere, one of the oldest and typical neighbourhood of the city. consists of a maze of narrow streets plenty of cinemas, cafés and restaurants with tables scattered in the pavement.

The Vatican (also ”The Holy City”) is the central governing body of the Catholic Church and the world’s smallest country .
